It is vital to have a blueprint for Iran’s democracy after the collapse of the current dictatorship. The realization, once the U.S. initiated an attack on Iran, of no future plans to enable a safe democratic system in place is problematic.

Since the choice of war has already taken place without proper planning for the future, those of authority must now invoke much-needed plans to enlist a true democracy in Iran. The strategies should work to ensure the country’s citizens and the world of autonomous governing going forward.

When a dictatorship is nearing its end, its downfall is less about military defeat and more about losing its authority to govern. Once the regime loses legitimacy, sovereignty shifts back to the people, and continuing to recognize the regime as the nation’s only representative becomes a mistake in diplomacy.
