The economic downfall has made an impact. This is the time that everyone needs a pick-me-up the most. Fresh surroundings can encourage one to continue the fight to secure a fresh beginning.
Would it not be cool if, like magic, you could change the room’s décor with little or no cash? With a little sleight of hand, imagination, and some old fashioned muscle a room can be transformed easily with a little bit of rearranging and fluffing.
Rearrange and fluff furnishings to create a totally new and updated decor
Evaluate each room; look at the shapes and textures.
- Make notes of what is in each room.
- Measure the sizes of the furnishings.
- Note the shape of tables, sofas, etc,
Measure the perimeter of the rooms to be redecorated; draw a rough, scaled out, easy floor plan
- Play with your furnishings such as swapping chests from the bedroom to use in the living room and vice versa.
- Move the seating away from the walls and place it in the center of the room.
Accessories are important
- At least three ambient lights should be placed in a room in addition to any overhead lighting.
- Create interesting wall décor to enhance the furnishings or add to the artwork you already have.
- A bit of organic décor, such as apples in a bowl or a plant, invokes an awakened décor.
Make sure you know the decorating “don’ts”
- Don’t add too many squares and rectangles to a room; soften the décor with a round ottoman or table. Add an oval mirror to a wall.
- Don’t count on overhead lighting to be enough; accent lighting is important and adds ambiance.
- Don’t line the walls with furniture; sofas should be pulled away from a wall. Even in a small room move the furniture a few inches away from the walls for a professionally designer look.
- Don’t use an area rug that is too small; make sure that it is large enough to incorporate the main seating elements of the room.
- Don’t dot the walls with tiny art work; arrange groupingsto fill the walls.
- Don’t hang the décor too high on the walls; wall décor should be hung at eye level.
For the adventurous
- Rip out old carpeting and clean up wood floors.
- Add a fresh coat of paint.
With a little fluff and magic, in a blink of an eye, you will have a new look for the abode. Have fun and be creative rearranging and redecorating. Fill your life with a new outlook and never be afraid to dance!
