A decorating touch up for the abode

The holidays are in full flow. The abodes are decorated waiting for approaching holidays; Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, and New Years.

Soon the 2012 will be here. With a new year comes the desire for change. Many long to redecorate in anticipation for the new seasons to come. For a large interior design project it is a good idea to consult with a professional before your start and get swallowed up.

There are many ways you can easily do a little redecorating to renew your home.

  • Painting is the simplest way to add some newness to the décor. With just a new color, everyone will think you have redone the entire room. Read tips to learn more about choosing paint, how to paint, and painting techniques.

  • Swap furniture and accessories from different rooms for a fresh look. An end table from the living room might look great as a night table in a bed room or guest room. Take out the chair from the family room and place it in the living room. Check out your artwork and rearrange it on the walls; create new groupings. Educate yourself with helpful tips on hanging art.
  • Take inventory of what you have and make a floor plan. This way you will know exactly how you will want to rearrange your furnishings without unnecessary lifting and moving.

With some very little effort you can impress the guests.

  • Have a sparkling bathroom scrubbed and ready.
  • Just by replacing old caulking can make a bathtub and sink look new.
  • Buy new towels and a shower curtain with new colors for a fresh look. Make sure the colors still blend with the rest of your Abode’s décor.
  • Replace an old dirty shower curtain liner with a brand new one.
  • Add an attractive scent with candles

  • Change light bulbs in your lamps and fixtures; just by replacing an existing bulb with a softer light will make people feel more comfortable.
  • Purchase new lampshades, rugs, and accessories to add some newness to the abodes décor without spending on a complete room of new furnishings.

add new accessories to freshen the decor

This is a festive time of year. Enjoy the weather and the friendly greetings that come with the holidays. Take in the scents around you and bring them into your abode. Everyone enjoys showing off a décor that they are proud of. Let your furnishings express your personality; never be afraid to dance

  1. The room painted in green; it is really changing. I had done once, painting one of my home’s corner, but it didn’t work well. How can I determine the right color? It is just stressful. Or maybe I need some sweetener such as hanging some things on the wall. Well, guess I have work to do.

    1. Hi Paul,
Try sampling some colors. Benjamin Moore has small sample bottles of paint to try out. Your walls might crave texture. Paintable wall coverings are wonderful for this and not very expensive. After you hang the wall covering paint it in whatever color you like. I prefer a semi gloss paint when painting these wall coverings. A soft green can make a nice neutral color. Green in the bedroom promotes sleep.
      Have fun, Carol
