The world has become so overcrowded. We are always searching for a spot to call our own, that private nook in our abode to do some soul-searching, reading or just to have some peace away from the family or roommates. The children share a room and are always at war for space. Dorm mates long for some privacy.
There are many décor ideas to in order to provide the much needed privacy that we crave.
- Beautiful Shoji screens add privacy without overwhelming the decor.
- Doors and windows can be repurposed into a partition screen.
Nature provides some of the best alternatives for room dividers.
- Use pretty large potted plants as a partition. Everyone in the family can have their own to nurture.

nature as a privacy screen adds beauty and calmness to the abode
Bamboo is a great material to use for a privacy screen.
- Live bamboo can be planted in a moveable planter. The planters are great for preventing the dreaded spread of live bamboo when planted outside, while providing the benefits of privacy that bamboo provides. Remember that bamboo comes in many varieties and this is where the problems can begin. You must choose wisely and use only cold-hardy, clumping bamboos, such as Chusquea culeou, Fargesia species or Thamnocalamus tessellatus. Bamboo will not get too big when planted in a confined planter and the dread of spreading will be of no concern.
- Planters filled with bamboo can be beautiful used inside as well for a natural partition wall.
- Bamboo poles make very interesting, contemporary partitions. They create a natural wall and add texture to your decor, one of this year’s design trends.
- A bamboo room divider can be built to accommodate unique spaces. They create a wall of sculpture and assist in the Feng Shui of the décor. Visit the website for Sunset bamboo to learn how to make a bamboo room divider.
As much as we want our friends and family around us we also value our private times; chances to listen to our own music, read, or just reflect on our day. We need our own space to let loose. Never be afraid to dance!
