Two Green Cleaning Experts Advise On Important Benefits of Green Cleaning

Why To Use Eco-Friendly Products

Industry has introduced innovative creations that are meant to make stressful lives easier. In making of the products, cocktails of chemicals and ingredients were introduced for recipes that were supposed to add ease to lives. People are now discovering that many of these modern cleaners have actually had an harmful impact on the health and wellbeing of the folks using them and living inside the cocoons that the cleaners have manufactured.

Everything old becomes new again. Concerns for health become more widespread. Folks are becoming more conscious of the use of harsh cleaning chemicals having adverse effects on health and living. With products that were originally manufactured to make life easier now doing harm, people are looking to return to nature and the past to look for green ways to clean.

Two top green cleaning experts share the benefits of using eco-friendly products when cleaning.

Leslie Reichert, “The Cleaning Coach”, a nationally recognized expert in green cleaning and owner of The Back Door, invites people to share in her love of green cleaning with helpful tips. As owner of a cleaning service for over 20 years Reichert began by using the harsh chemicals to clean with and eventually realized the impact that they were having on her own health.

Sara Snow is a Green Living Expert, TV Host (Discovery Networks, CNN) and the author of “Sara Snow’s Fresh Living.” As a child raised by eco-conscience parents, Sara followed their appreciation of the Earth. After graduating with degrees in theater performance and telecommunications in 1998 she started out working as a producer for ESPN. Sara has now married her production talents and her passion to live a natural lifestyle in order to send her green living expertise to the world.

An interview with Leslie Reichert revealed her six thoughts on why one should be cleaning green.clean green talk logo

Reichert’s moment of clarity came with the passing of her Great Grandmother stirring up memories of the old fashioned type of cleaning from a lifetime long ago. She took those memories of how her Great Grandmother cleaned and created old fashioned cleaning recipes compiled in her book “Joy of Green Cleaning.”

  1. Health

The largest benefit that is received by green cleaning is that no longer will there be chemicals absorbed into the skin or breathed in by the person cleaning. Added health benefits reach further to family members who are no longer breathing in the harmful after effects of the cleaners lingering in the air and sitting on surfaces.

  1. Environment

By green cleaning no longer are harmful chemicals being released into the environment.

  1. Aromatherapy

Making one’s own green cleaners can be a pleasurable task. By adding natural essential oils Leslie calls it her “aromatherapy” that she looks forward to doing.

  1. Pet Safety

Pets are largely effected by chemicals used seeping into their skin and paws. By green cleaning one prevents the health of their pet from being compromised.

  1. Air Quality

No more stench of strong chemical odors, the home will be filled with pleasant smells from the green cleaning products.

  1. Knowledge

The government does not require ingredients to be listed on any cleaning products. Leslie is a strong advocate for one making their own green cleaning products to know exactly what the ingredients are the cleaning recipes one is using.

Sharing her message of attainable sustainable living, Snow is a frequent public speaker and media contributor. She has been seen on “Good Morning America”, “The Early Show”, “New York Times”, “Lucky Magazine”, “Better Homes and Gardens” and more.

  1. Reduces the risk of asthma

Asthma today is the most common chronic illness and the leading cause of school absences due to chronic illness across the country.  A number of home and commercial cleaning products have ingredients that contribute to a higher risk of asthma.  Green cleaning products don’t contain asthmagens (chemicals that cause asthma) and have limits on ingredients that trigger asthma in people with an existing condition.

  1. Better For the Earth

The use of green or environmentally friendly cleaning products helps reduce pollution to our waterways (think aquatic life) and the air and it minimizes your impact on ozone depletion and global climate change with fewer smog producing chemicals.

  1. Safer For the Cleaner

Conventional cleaning products pose risks such as chemical burns to the cleaner’s skin and eyes.  Green cleaners are not corrosive to the skin or eyes and they meet strict standards regarding inhalation toxicity, combustibility and skin absorption.

  1. Minimizes Waste

Green cleaning products are often sold in recyclable packaging, or packaging that is made from recycled materials.  Use of environmentally friendly cleaners also minimizes your toxic products that require special disposal methods.

  1. Less Costly

For home cleaning, vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice etc. can do the trick for pennies on the dollar compared to buying conventional cleaning products.  For commercial spaces, the cost of environmentally friendly cleaning products has become much more competitive while cleaning in an environmentally sound way reduces the risk of sick days for employees and the risk of fires and chemical spills, all resulting in higher operational costs.

  1. Less Antibacterials

We’re now told by the FDA that washing with antibacterial soaps isn’t any better than regular soaps. The AMA says that the frequent use of antibacterial ingredients can promote bacterial resistance to antibiotics.  Triclosan, a common antibacterial agent found in many soaps, can mess with your hormonal system and thyroid.  Most green or environmentally friendly cleaning products don’t’ contain antibacterial agents.
