A new life of patterns for the abode’s décor

With the spring season comes a new sense of awakening. Everyone is crawling out of the winter hibernation longing for the excitement of the fun months to come. Coastal areas are waking up in anticipation of the beach weather. This is the perfect time to get the abodes ready for brighter days.

Freshen up the décor with a little redecorating. Simply changing some upholstery, drapery, or a wall with new fabric will change an entire look of the room.

Do not be afraid of Pattern

Patterns can bring energy to a room.

  • Mix and match patterns to create a unique look.
  • Many choices are available; patterns can be traditional, contemporary, or transitional, as well as ethnic.
  • For a simpler décor, use tone on tone patterns.

Patterns come in all sizes

Different size patterns can add new dimensions to a piece of furniture, wall, or window.

  • Add a large scale pattern to a wall for a cheerful look. No need for artwork; the entire wall is turned into a piece of art.

    A larger scaled pattern
  • Upholster a sofa with a large pattern and add smaller patterned accent pillows.

Mix and match different patterns

Different patterns that are tone on tone and in the same color family will add definition while keeping calmness to the room.

  • For a livelier atmosphere, have fun with colors and pattern choices that complement each other.
  • Tie patterns together with a common element of trim.
  • Do not be afraid of mixing a stripe, plaid, and floral, just do not over do it.

Have fun with different styles

Step away from the ordinary by upholstering a traditional framed piece of furniture with a contemporary pattern.

  • Use a bold geometric on a Victorian frame.

update an antique chair with a contemporary fabric
  • Damask can be used on a contemporary chrome chair.

Do the homework to get to know the different patterns and styles

  • Simple Country; mix small flowers with gingham and stripes.
  • Formal Country; combine silk chintz with a stripe and a formal floral.
  • Traditional; Damasks, toile, velvet, and moirés with rich tapestries. Paisleys and opulent floral add dimension.
  • Contemporary; Geometric patterns in bright colors and blacks. Metallic mixed in. Fun colors in velvet and suede.
