Earth friendly furnishings: Dress the abode with Graypants

It is a never ending search for furnishings that are beautiful as well as earth friendly. The products come from truly creative and caring minds that are concerned about saving the environment as well as making the abode’s environment beautiful and inviting.

People are getting very inventive when it comes to using recycled and repurposed materials to come up with new designs. There are chairs made out of newspaper yarn, Newsworthy wall coverings made from recycled newspaper, and NewspaperWoodfurnishings made from recycled newspapers.

Graypants, inc. was born to add beauty to the home environment while eliminating waste and pollution.

As architects Seth and Jon describe on the website “we strive to come up with designs and ideas that are thoughtful and have an impact, whether it be furniture, lighting, architecture or graphics. each one of our projects has a unique story and we try to explore new ideas to redefine how design can have a greater impact. most importantly, we have fun doing it! we enjoy collaborating with all walks of life – that is where we find true inspiration. we want to let the beauty of what we love be what we do.”

Their furnishings are pieces of crafted art made from recycled materials including cardboard, wood and metal.

• Scrap chairs are a product of the first adventure of graypants. “Scrap chairs are the pure result of pillaging trash to create elegant, useful products. The chair of layered plywood scraps follows earlier versions of cardboard and newspaper.”

  

• Slice chairs; three entire chairs are made from just one sheet of plywood with the only waste created is sawdust and it has a low-VOC finish.

• Jupiter series scrap lights inspired from the planet Jupiter and its four largest moons. “Its best known feature is the great red spot, referenced in the assembly of this scrap light. [they] chose the four largest moons discovered by Galileo to accompany jupiter. from largest to smallest, these galilean moons are named ganymede, callisto, io, and europa. you may purchase them at a discounted price as a set of 5 (including jupiter) or individually.”

  

• The stellar scrap lights were inspired by the Jupiter light. Graypants added twisting star shapes to the collection. “The series includes 18” tall twisting pendants and a towering, twisting floor lamp that encases a glowing column of lights.”

  

Raw aluminum makes exciting lighting fixtures.

• The Steplight is about “clean lines, reflective raw aluminum, efficient use of material, and an interlocking assembly… the sixteen interlocking aluminum rings and the joinery in assembly become the beauty of this fixture. reveals left between each layer cast concentric shadows on the surrounding walls and ceiling. the random pixels of light on the surface are a result of the assembly but also create a unique pattern for each fixture.”
