There are many challenges when attempting to decorate the abode. We are always looking for something new and exciting. Many homes have a large wall that becomes a huge confrontation in itself.
What do you do with a very long linear wall or a tall wall?
Use carpet and area rugs as wall décor.
This does not mean carpeting an entire wall with shag carpeting, which was fashionable in the 70’s. Find an interesting piece of carpet or an area rug and hang it much like you would a tapestry or area rug.
There are some beautiful area rugs.
- Purchase a large antique silk Persian rug to adorn a grand wall.
- There are some cool contemporary patterned area rugs that can be hung as a backdrop behind a simple piece of furniture.

- Woven Native American or Mexican wool rugs make lovely wall décor in a relaxed atmosphere.
- Bamboo area rugs can look interesting framed as well.
- There are area rugs designed to have the look of a portrait or piece of artwork with the added interest of texture.

- Hang an area rug above a fireplace on a heavy stone or brick wall to add some softness.
- Take interesting loop shag and use it behind a bed instead of a headboard. This also works great in a small bedroom where and actual headboard would take up needed space.
- Make your own patchwork like quilt of carpet remnants or make an interesting design using the remnants. Learn how to have fun creating your own area rug with remnants.
You will want to make sure the edges of a cut piece of carpet are finished in some fashion.
- You can have it professionally bounded or do it yourself with Instabind. Instabind is a very cost effective and simple way to bind carpet edges yourself. This is simple and all you need is a knife to trim your carpet, a scissor to cut the binding, a hot glue gun, and some tape. Check out Instabind’s simple instructions.
