Everything goes right now in fashion as well as the abodes décor. Maxi skirts are back in but for great legs the mini is still happening. Even the broad shoulders of the 80’s have been showing up again. Jeans can be a very tight straight leg or a more comfortable flare.
The retro look is very popular due to the trend and hipness to recycle and repurpose. It is in to be “green” these days. Grandma’s furnishings that have been stored away in the attic can be refreshed and made into your own.
Achieve a sleek designer look by contemporizing retro décor:
- Grandma’s Victorian sofa can be reupholstered in a bold pattern or interesting tweed.
- Take old clothes and repurposethem to make a patchwork yardage of fabric to use to reupholster a worn out chair or sofa.
- Paint all of those wooden pieces dating back to the 50’s in high gloss black or white, some of 2011’s hottest color trends.
- Mix a simple white and black room with a splash of color; add a colorful reupholstered Victorian chair as a center piece, and bring the colors into a few decorative pillows.
- Do not forget texture is big this year. Take Grandmas’ worn out fur and use it to upholster an ottoman or make some pillows.
- Scour the stores for the clear acrylic furnishings from the 70’s. This time mix acrylic chairs with a simple wood parsons table for warmth.
- Even the grass paper and flocked wall paper are back in vogue.
Everything old can be new again. Pull out those disco shirts, please guys, just leave the chains in the past and never be afraid to dance!
