Blending the Flat Screen into Your Abodes Décor

We all want to be the first to experience any of the newest objects on the market and the first to purchase up to the minute technology. Everyone has to have the hottest and latest items. That is why we see our streets lined with “ancient” TV sets waiting to be sent away to their final resting place. Everyone is now buying flat screens which can be as narrow as only one inch thick and hung on the wall to blend in with the artwork.

Televisions are no longer bulky, heavy items stuck in the middle of the room. In the past we tried to hide TVs using pretty cabinetry, but that resulted with the cabinet becoming the focal point of the room. Now with the new flat screen TVs it is easier to focus back on our seating areas for entertaining.

They look nice just hanging simply on the walls, but there are times that you would rather not have the distraction there at all. There are many ways to now camouflage these new flat screens.

  •  Flat screens can now easily be blended in within a bookcase.

  • Pop-up cabinetry no longer has to be thick to accommodate a television. Modern pop-ups can look beautiful and be as thin as a bookcase or even be incorporated into the foot of a bed. Electric fireplaces can be purchased with a built-in lift for your TV.

  • Display cases are made so that the center swivels to reveal a flat screen behind the shelves. These are called reversible media centers. These can be found at reversica.com

  • TVS can be placed behind mirrors so that when they are off you only see a mirror. These work great in bathrooms too.

Turn the TV off and you have a mirror.
  • Picture frames are made exclusively to fit a flat screen set. Place a mirror inside the frame to hide the screen when it is off or use moving art that is made to scroll down over your TV when it isn’t in use. Media Decor Moving Art and Media Mirror. For handy do-it-yourselfers, there are kits available at crafts stores that have all of the necessary parts to design and build a frame yourself. Check out Michaels for directions.
  • Tapestries look beautiful on the wall and can be hung with a rod over the set so they can easily be pushed aside to reveal the TV or can be motorized to roll up above the set with a remote control. You can even have a tapestry made with a personalized photo. http://wovenartandbeyond.com

  • There are now mechanisms that will swing the TV down from a trap door in the ceiling and flat screens are so thin that they can be sunk into a shallow wall to be made flush with the surface.

Hook your flat screen up to the internet. When you are not watching TV you can log onto sites like flippingartgallery.com for virtual art to display on your screen.

We have come so far from the beginning of television. Imagine what the future holds. We will probably be watching holograms of our favorite shows beamed from a stream of light onto a platform raised from the floor. Sporting games will feel as if we are actually in the stadium.

What would our world be like if these inventors and engineers were reluctant to build on their imaginations? These innovators have taught us to never be afraid to dance!
