3D TV’s: No glasses needed for home entertainment in the future abode

The hottest television that everyone is vying for is the up-to-the-minute 3D TV; great for watching all of those 3D movies that are taking over the theaters. The problem: those glasses that one is forced to wear to have the full 3D experience. They are expensive; costing as much as $100 for one pair, they can be heavy and uncomfortable. Without the glasses the picture is fuzzy.

3D turns 2D media into an experience that brings the viewer into the picture through depth.

  • The 3 dimensional method is made possible by preparing two separate images for each eye. When each eye switches between images it creates the feeling of depth. The glasses work as a bridge with the eyes and TV to create the final 3D experience. The cost factor and lack of comfort of the glasses has been the main reason for people to hesitate on the purchase of a 3D set.

Hold off on the 3D TV purchase for the glasses free 3D TV.

On the horizon is new 3D technology that will have people enjoying the 3 dimensional viewing with no need to wear the now required glasses.

Toshiba is working on perfecting the problems that other manufacturers have had with the glasses-free 3D technology TV.

Toshiba’s REGZA 553X is an ultra High-Definition television model without a need for any glasses.

  • The set has a resolution of 4000 x 3000 pixels; four times that of any other HD TV on the market.
  • This is a great size measuring 55 inches diagonally.
  • It includes 2D to 3D conversion feature and a face tracking system.

Toshiba creates two different 2D images made for the right and left eyes. When the eyes switch between the two images it creates the three dimensional viewing.

The REGZA 553X also converts 2D into 3D.

  • Imagine watching those classic Star Trek TV shows in 3 dimensions. A camera in the bottom of the television monitors the viewer with a face-tracking system to mark the position of the face to make the required adjustments in order to transform the 2D into 3D.

Be patient and wait to purchase the 3D television. The Toshiba’s REGZA 553X is on its way with other manufacturers to follow with their own glass-free 3D technology. As more companies compete the prices will be sure to come down. Remember back to when a VCR was $1000? Now they are sitting on the side of the street waiting for sanitation to pick them up.

Enjoy your TV shopping adventures. Have fun watching and never be afraid to dance!

  1. It’s still going to be a while before the autostereoscopic TVs hit the mainstream consumer market. But when it does happen we’re going to see 3D TV take off and really reach its potential. Personally, I can’t wait.
