Faux decorating beyond painting for the abode

The term faux brings to mind the wonderful artistically painted surfaces that replicate marble columns or wood grain. Faux painting is beautiful and is prominent in many grand homes. Faux art represents the grandeur of the mansions in our dreams. Artists are busy adorning abodes with whimsy and sparkle.

The decorating trend has become about combining textures. This has been prevalent in fashion as well as with Interior Design. What better way to bring texture into a design than with faux.

Faux is more than just paint.

  • Faux designs can be found in wall coverings; grass paper is beautiful but not always practical, linen has a tendency to dirty easily. There are now vinyl wall coverings that look exactly like actual grass paper and linen.

Fur is big now; whether wearing a fur scarf or tossing a fur throw to enhance a sofa, accessorizing with fur is hot!

Faux fur has come into its own. It is not the fake fur of the past. Some faux furs are so realistic, from the look to the touch, that they are hard to decipher from the actual animal. Fur adds a coziness and warmness to a room.

  • Place a faux fur rug on a wood or carpeted floor as an accent.
  • Use faux fur in the bedroom as a bedspread.

Fur is not just for the winter.

  • Use a faux fur in fun colors or white to add texture to a room any time of the year.

Animal prints are very popular and in fashion any time of the year

Do not get carried away. Remember less is more. When you use faux as an accent it will add a new dimension to the décor. Decorating should be fun and creative. Enjoy playing with different textures. Never be afraid to dance!
