Adding new life to the abode’s décor

Longing to get home to relax, the minute you step inside you seem to be bombarded with more stress; the family needs a meal, the house is a mess, and the dog needs to be walked. Stop and take a minute to look around; what can you do to control this situation.

Take a deep breath, stop and think before exploding.

• Living in a busy household you dream of peace and quiet; envying your single friends.
• Living alone, you long for company.

There is one décor accessory that you can use to fulfill both of these situations.

• Plants are a living accessory that will provide a peaceful energy in a hectic environment and also will provide company to fill a void in a too quiet abode.

Even for those without a green thumb, there are many plants to choose from that are very easy to maintain.

You want to look for the following:

• Puts up with a little neglect (such as your sometimes forgetting to water it)

• Doesn’t mind dry air

• Tolerates low light or shade (at least for a while)

• Requires little primping, pinching or pruning

• Resistant to insects or disease

• If it’s a flowering plant, doesn’t require special care to bloom

Consider these Plants that Need Little Care or Direct Sunlight

• Ivy: very easy to take care of. It should not be over watered and it will flourishes in a low light.

• Spider plants:require just a little water and a little sun to stay hearty. These are usually grown in hanging baskets. As they grow the roots will to fill up a pot, so repotting may have to be done every couple of years. These plants produce dangling babies that can be cut off and planted in their own pots when they start to form roots.

  

• ZZ Plant: will keep you company with little attention. It is a plant with an easy-going personality that grows well even when forgotten. This

  

• Wax plants: easy to maintain and do well as a hanging houseplants.

• Jade Plants: succulents. These require very little water to survive and get more beautiful with age.

  

• Cactus: a succulent plant that stores water and nutrients. They love the sun.

• Wandering Jews: very low maintenance plants. They have fast-growing stems that can reach 3 feet. These can be cut and placed easily in water to root and potted as additional plants for your collection.

• Snake plant, or mother-in-law plant:can be placed in a lot of sun or just a little. It has stiff, upright leaves that grow up to four feet tall

  

There are also easy plants that can grow just in water

• Bamboo:very hard to kill plant. Just keep the water fresh and clean in a glass bowl.

  

• Wandering Jew: can grow in a bowl of water as well as soil.

• English Ivy: will grow well in a glass bowl filled with water.

These are all great easy, low maintenance plants. Plants add life to your décor and provide great company. They love to be spoken to and will not talk back.

Keep in mind that everyone needs their own space. You can use Shoji Screens or make creative room dividers and partitions to establish a private special space for each member of the household. Give everyone their own plants to decorate their own spaces with. This adds the additional benefit of teaching the kids how to take care and nurture another living thing.

Life is continuously stressful. We seem to spend our days fighting; to get to work and to get back home, standing in lines, and constantly struggling to accomplish what we set out to do. We all need a place to find some sanctuary and peace. Take a moment to enjoy life and never be afraid to dance!
