If you have been looking at the same old lighting for years it is time to spruce up the décor with some new lighting fixtures. Walk around the home and evaluate the abode’s lighting. It is time to get rid of that bad Kitchen lighting that you hate waking up to every day. Maybe you should replace the bathroom lighting that shine an unattractive light on you as you try to make yourself more beautiful.
The happening lighting trend for 2012 is chandeliers.
What is old has come around again. The classic crystal chandelier is now back in and not just for the Dining Room and Foyer. Along with the grand classics, chandeliers come in many contemporary styles with artistic flare and excitement.
- Chandeliers can add romance as the room lighting placed over the bed in the master bedroom.
- A chandelier will look beautiful hanging over the center of the seating area in the Living Room.
- Chandeliers will add interest to an office and large closet.
For smaller areas such as a guest bathroom or closet the chandelier will have to be of a smaller scale. These “mini” chandeliers are known as chandelettes.
A chandelette is simply a smaller version of the chandelier. It is around only 9 to 12 inches in diameter. Just as its big sister, chandelettes share the same beauty as the larger chandelier.

- A few small chandelettes will look attractive and add sophistication hanging over an island in the Kitchen.
In order to determine the correct size of the fixture you will need to consider your overall space, the ceiling height and the area your fixture will be hung.
There are some basic rules to follow when hanging the chandelier or chandelette
- A chandelier should be hung at approximately 30 inches from the top of a dining table.
- If the light fixture is to be hung in an open area then the bottom should be at least 7 feet above the floor to prevent bumped heads.
- Keep in mind that an average ceiling height is 8 feet. If you do not have the heights consider an interesting flush mounted fixture. Remember rules can be broken so do not be afraid to use your eye when determining the height of your fixture.
Remember old fixtures can be updated to fit into your décor.
- Do not be afraid to paint an old worn out chandelier in a glossy black or white.
- Be creative; if your old chandelier is missing crystals, add some beads or shells. Make your light fixture into your own piece of art.
- Chandeliers can be fashioned out of repurposeditems as well.
Sparkle in the glow of your new lighting, take center stage under the lights and never be afraid to dance!
