Holiday Season is upon us. Guests will be visiting and we want to make our water closets welcoming. Now is a good time to think about redecorating the bathroom. If you are not sure where to begin, consult with a Designer (weberlifedesign.com) that has expertise in Bath Design.
The bathroom is a small space, which makes it a good spot to start when freshening up the décor.
- If your walls are painted you might want to consider starting with a fresh coat of color. Painting is a simple way to update any room. Small rooms are great spots to play with fun colors.
- No need to replace all of the fixtures or tiles. If your wall tile or bathtub is looking outdated, and is still clean of cracks and chips, have them resurfaced to renew. This is a great money saving option.
- Have fun with prints. Think of nature like animal designs or palm leaves. Add a rug or bathtub mat that looks like pebbles.
- Custom made shower curtains look beautiful but can be costly. They are easy to make yourself or hire a seamstress to make them for you. Make a matching window valance to complete the designer look. Find fabric at a fabric warehouse, like Duralee, or find sheets in a great pattern to make your curtains with. Indoor-outdoor fabrics are beautiful, easy to find these days, and they won’t attract mold or mildew. Add decorative trim for a distinctive touch.
A standard shower curtain measures 72″ X 72″. One flat queen sheet works well if you wish to have no seams down the center. When buying fabric it will come in a 54” width. This will require a seam down the center. Be aware that if you have a pattern you will need to buy enough fabric to allow for the repeat. For special interest use the fabric in the center and make up the width by adding equal amounts of a coordinating fabric on either side. Another alternative is to railroad (run it length ways) the main fabric and use the coordinating fabric as an accent border along the top or bottom edge to make up the length. The coordinating border can be used on the window as well. For complete instructions on how to make a shower curtain visit http://www.save-on-crafts.com/showercurtain.html
- For a new look add bead board or wainscoting 36” high to the non-tiled walls. You can buy already primed bead board at stores like Lowe’s, and Home Depot. Paint in a high gloss enamel paint. Bead board also comes in a white vinyl which works great in a bathroom. Paneling that resembles bead board can be cut down to be installed at chair rail height (36”). Finish off with a chair rail molding.
- If you are tired of your vanity and countertop but cannot afford to replace it, consider refinishing both. Rust-Oleum has new products to refinish both cabinets and counters called Transformations. This is getting rave reviews and is very affordable. Visit the Rust-Oleum Transformationswebsite to learn more.
- Replace your faucets and cabinet hardware with new beautiful sparkling pieces.
- Swap the existing light fixtures with new ones.
For a final touch to welcome the guests in, add a basket filled with pretty towels and bath essentials such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, and a lotion. Light some scented candles for a refreshing scent.
