People pay a premium to own their own house. When doing any home improvement it is important to think of the resale value it will have on your home. Whether you are preparing to sell soon or in the far future it is a good idea to keep this in mind when working out your costs for home improvements, remodeling, and additions.
Most people know that updating the kitchen and bath rooms can raise the value of the house. Even some minor remodeling can make these rooms look new. Start with replacing cabinet hardware. Put in new counter tops. Replace old appliances. Refinish or replace the cabinetry. Faucets can be updated. Tile, Bathtubs and sinks can be refinished and/ or replaced.
Rip out old carpeting and clean up floors. Add a fresh coat of paint. These are all common, well known, ways to improve your abodes appearance.
There are some other home improvements that will add life and value to your décor.
Not all rooms have windows and long for light. If you have a dark space, perhaps in a Bathroom or small playroom think skylights. Conventional skylights can be expensive. New tubular skylights are a great alternative. The light output is incredible, providing as much light as you would expect from a skylight many times its size. It is cost-effective. Tubular Daylighting Devices cost considerably less than windows and skylights. Clean and easy installation is fast, keeping costs low. They require no structural reframing, tunneling, dry walling or painting. A professional can install the product in less than two hours and most Do-It-Yourselfers can finish the project in one day. The compact and flexible design allow tube lights to be installed in just about any room, including rooms without direct roof access and smaller spaces where windows and conventional skylights would usually not be an option. Tubular lights are considered “green”. They allow you to switch off electric lights during the day, which provides savings on energy bills and also reduces environmental pollution. Brighten up a dark space to make it inviting and friendly.

Add or repair the decks, patios, and porches. These areas expand your living space. The abode now has an additional “outside room” and provides for an additional sitting area.

Finish the Basement and/ or Attic spaces. Put a cedar closet in the basement. Add a playroom, gym, or office and guest room with an extra bath. Make the attic into a loft.

You will have a larger abode than you started with, without having to do any additions. With some simple home improvements you have raised the value of your home. You will be able to say you have more of a home than when you bought it. Have fun with your new space and never be afraid to dance!
