Decorating the Abode’s Decor for “Writing on the Wall”

As it gets into the colder seasons the kids start driving you crazy. There is no shouting “go outside and play”. You must find endeavors to keep them busy, and quiet. The children are running amok while the adults are frenzied trying to figure out how to occupy the kids.

There never seems to be quite enough activities to fill the days. Now would be a good time for a family project. It is important on finding an activity that every member can be involved in creating while at the same time will give you a return on your investment of time and money.

Make a family fun day at home. Purchase some blackboard paint (Benjamin Moore makes chalkboard paint), brushes, and drop cloths. Now you have a few choices. If you have a large blank wall in a family room, kitchen, kid’s room, or playroom you may opt to paint the entire wall.

If space is limited or you are looking to make a more formal statement then place some attractive molding on the wall as a frame to delineate a specific space to paint your blackboard inside of. For transient renters, or folks who do not want to commit, find some pretty frames at garage sales or thrift shops (Decorate the Abode Shopping Thrift Store, Estate and Garage Sales). Cut a board to fit inside the frame. Paint the board with the blackboard paint and hang your framed black boards on a wall for a great look.

You now have a space for the entire family to express themselves. Make sure you have chalk and erasers handy. You can keep them in a pretty basket. Write fun notes. Keep lists of things to do. Make a chore chart. The kids can draw pictures and play tic-tac-to. When friends drop by have them join in.
