Tuck in the abode’s décor for a cozy winter

As the holiday season passes we find ourselves deep into the cold winter months. It is time to make the final hibernation preparations, getting the abode ready for the colder months of the winter season. Knowing that we will be hunkered down inside it is time to decorate the abode to enhance coziness and warmth.

Color is important.

  • Keep with colors from nature in soft tones to create a peaceful environment. Wood floors, natural wood cabinets and furnishings will bring in an earthy feel to a room. Trim can be painted with soft browns.

warm colors make a room cozy
  • Greens and Blues are calming colors. Paint walls in a soft green or blue. Use these colors as accents in a new area rug or accessories like pillows.
  • Yellow, Amber, and Orange represents sunshine and happiness. Use these colors as accents in art, and accessories such as candles and pillows to add some warmth during the chilly months.

Make sure that you have a comfy place to sit and will surround you like a cocoon.

  • Depending on room restraints you might choose a chair and ottoman or a chaise lounge.
  • Huge pillows on the floor that you can sink into can do the trick too.

Fireplaces are the ultimate must have on a cold day or night.

Even if your abode is not equipped with an old-fashioned wood burning fireplace everyone can now have their own personal fireplace even in a rental.

  • There are now electric fireplaces that can be wall hung to take up minimal space.

simply hang an electric fireplace on the wall to add a warm glow to any room
  • Heaters that are made to look like wood burning stoves and fireplaces come in all sizes and add true warmth. These come in all sizes and styles to fit any floor plan.
  • Media cabinets are made with built in fireplaces.
  • If you love your existing fireplace but hate the soot, have a gas insert installed. With a flick of a switch you will now have immediate use of your fireplace without the mess.
  • Gas fireplaces are a wonderful alternative to a traditional fireplace. They are easier to install, do not require chimneys, and are clean. They also provide tremendous warmth.

Add warmth to the windows with some heavier winter drapery.

  • Make sure the window treatments are lined to help keep the windows insulated from the cold outside.

Make sure that you have plenty of cozy throws for everyone in the household to cuddle up with.

Add candles with a warm scent such as nice apples and cinnamon or peppermint.

Have all of the good movies ready to watch and the popcorn ready to pop. Enjoy your hibernating months in your cozy abode. Plan on turning up the music and never be afraid to dance!
